Ptero flyers — complete example mod

Le guide ai mod sono in inglese, come vengono distribuite con il gioco.

Sample mod - Ptero flyers is on the Steam Workshop. Subscribe to it on the Steam Workshop (Options → Mods → Workshop), then restart Torreta. Disable it, or unsubscribe, and restart to restore the original flyers.

This original alien pterosaur has two hinged leather wings, a swept cranial crest, a pointed beak, folded talons, a tail vane and luminous green eyes. The same GLB replaces all 36 flyer families across the three difficulties and the four flying castes that some of them wear from wave 6. Ground enemies, health, movement, wave composition, rewards and damage rules stay unchanged. The cockpit's mesh collision follows the ptero's animated geometry.

Edit it

  • Source/Ptero.blend: editable colored sculpt pieces, two wing hinges and a studio preview. Blender 5.1; no external assets or texture dependencies.
  • Models/Ptero.glb: self-contained runtime model, two materials and about 4.5k triangles. The Blender camera, lights and preview keyframes are not exported.
  • models.json: each Enemies/<species>_flyer points to this one model.
  • flight_cycle_speed: 0.22: cosmetic wingbeat clock multiplier (~1.89 Hz). Default 1.0 retains vanilla insect cadence. Allowed range 0.05–4.0, flyers only. It does not change flight speed, damage, death timing or simulation speed.

Keep the exact Empty names and direct hierarchy documented in ../FLYER_MODELS.md. Wing0 and Wing2 carry the two wings; Wing1 and Wing3 are intentionally empty. Unused insect pivots remain present for compatibility. Export only the Ptero hierarchy, without animation/skins. The source builder tools/mods/build_ptero.py batches meshes by rigid pivot and material and rebuilds only this example. It replaces any manual edits in this example's generated GLB and Blender source when run.

To make your own mod, duplicate this directory, give mod.json a new ID/name, edit the Blender source and replace the GLB. Retain only the family mappings you want to replace. Installed sample files are not overwritten by later updates.
